Answers

Medical Weight Loss questions

The questions patients actually ask about this program, answered by the clinical team behind it.

Adults 18 and over who meet clinical criteria may qualify, though a prescription can never be guaranteed. Clinicians generally consider patients with a BMI over 25, or patients seeking maintenance therapy with a BMI over 22 who have a documented history of obesity or overweight and used a GLP-1 within the past 12 months. Your full history decides it, not a number alone.
No. Those are FDA-approved branded products. What is prescribed here may be a compounded semaglutide or tirzepatide prepared by an independent licensed pharmacy for you specifically. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. Your clinician will talk through both routes with you.
You complete a clinical intake, then a licensed clinician reviews your health history and goals. Depending on your state you will either schedule a video visit or complete an asynchronous review. If a medication is appropriate, you start a subscription, create your patient portal password, and your prescription is sent to a partner pharmacy. Follow-up visits are typically monthly at first.
Options run from $249 to $339 per 4 weeks depending on the medication and route. One price covers clinician review, medication if prescribed, base labs where indicated, shipping and ongoing support. There is no separate membership fee and no consult fee. Charges may appear on your statement as “OPNLP PureMuze”.
No. Insurance does not cover the virtual visits in this program, and the subscription price is what you pay. If you have insurance that covers a branded GLP-1, your care team can help you pursue that route separately, including help with a prior authorization.
A GLP-1 is generally not appropriate if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive, or if you have end-stage kidney disease, severe liver disease, an active or past eating disorder, current suicidal thoughts or a prior attempt, active cancer treatment, a history of pancreatitis, an organ transplant on anti-rejection medication, a severe GI condition such as gastroparesis or IBD, or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2. A clinician screens for all of this during intake.
Yes, for most patients. The exception is a BMI under 22, which is better managed in person than virtually. To qualify you need a prior diagnosis of obesity (BMI over 30) or overweight (BMI over 27) and GLP-1 use within the past 12 months.
No. Your clinician reviews your history first and orders labs if they are needed, which may include a CMP, hemoglobin A1C, TSH and a lipid panel. If you have results from the last 24 months you may not need new ones. Upload them in the portal or email them to support@puremuze.com.
Your monthly subscription covers monthly clinician visits, weekly group coaching on nutrition, mindset and movement, 1:1 nutritionist support with chat access, care coaching from a Certified Medical Assistant every two weeks, comprehensive lab testing through Quest Diagnostics, and help navigating prior authorizations. These services are delivered by our clinical infrastructure partner, OpenLoop, and are included in the Medical Weight Loss program price.
It varies, and we will not promise a number. Most people titrate slowly over the first weeks so side effects stay manageable. Results are not guaranteed and vary by individual.
